Our Adoption Education Program (AEP) teaches prospective adoptive parents about all aspects of adoption, including:
Types of Adoptions • Attachment • Biological vs. Adoptive Parenting • Separation & Loss • Child Development (ages/stages) • Special Placement Needs in Adopted Children • Trans-Racial/Cross Cultural Adoption • Building Resilience • Open vs. Closed Adoption • Transitioning Child to Family • Discipline • Life Books
Delivered by registered social workers, the AEP also helps prospective adoptive parents to:
Make connections with others involved in the adoption process; and
Learn the latest tips to make your adoption successful.
Prospective adoptive parents need to complete an AEP before the home study is finalized. For most families, this coincides with completing an adoption application, but for information on participating at any point in the initial stages of adoption, please feel free to contact our team.
Our next AEP sessions are: June 2, 3, 16, 23, 24, 2018 - 5 weekend sessions 8:30 am-5 pm AEP sessions are held in our office at: 1638 East Broadway, Vancouver, BC. You must be able to attend all days of AEP in order to register. To register or be placed on a wait-list, contact us.
Responses from 2018 program participants We just completed our five day Adoption Education Program for prospective adoptive parents with fifteen people attending. Offered three times a year, this program is an essential part of the adoption preparation process and must be completed before a home study is started. The program covers many issues important for adoptive parents, such as coping with separation and loss, openness, cross cultural issues, predictable adjustments, drugs and alcohol, and legal issues.
Our families provided very positive responses:
"Very Important program. Exceeded my expectations."
"Wish it was standard education for everyone."
"I have learned how to make our lifelong journey more beautiful with our child."
